‘Ridge is to zinfandel…as Steinway is to pianos.’
Frank Prial wrote those words in the New York Times Magazine almost three decades ago (‘Original Zin’).
Since then, Paul Draper and his long-time winemaking team have continued to lift zinfandel into ever-higher quality circles by practicing ‘pre-industrial winemaking‘ (their phrase).
“At Ridge, we felt from the beginning that these modern, increasingly industrial, wines lacked the complexity, the sense of place, and the ability to age and develop that the pre-industrial wines demonstrated. So we looked back to the 19th Century…. In a synthesis of past and present, we have taken the pre-industrial techniques and applied them in conjunction with the best, least intrusive modern equipment.” – Paul Draper
Ridge has always spoken with a strong American accent, and this sense of place is most singularly heard in their old-vine, head-pruned, single-vineyard zins from Sonoma County. Come drink some with us, along with other killer reds (nope, not Monte Bello!) from Ridge and some rockin’ good food from Common Fire!
